Septicemia topped the list of the 10 most frequent diagnoses that led to hospital stays in 2018, accounting for 8 % of all admissions with the average cost of stay of $18,700.

What is septicemia? It’s a serious bloodstream infection that can occur when bacteria enters the blood from the skin, lungs, kidneys or bladder. Untreated UTI’s (urinary tract infections) can lead to septicemia.   The condition can quickly become life threatening and should be treated in the hospital. If not treated, it can lead to sepsis, which is a serious complication from septicemia leading to inflammation.

Recently our Nursing Supervisor Abbey Doyle created training on UTI’s as she saw more clients developing them. You can watch it here.

Here is a list of the top 10 diagnosis that led to hospital stays.
