The two earthquakes that hit north of Los Angeles County last week, a 6.4 and a 7.1, caused minimal physical harm – partly because they hit in a sparsely populated area. But they serve as a reminder to be prepared in Southern California for this type of event, and what you used to do may be wrong. For example, your instinct to run out of a building or go down a flight of stairs to find a desk to get under is now considered the wrong way to react – based on injury data from previous earthquakes.

To prepare, on October 17th, at 10:17 am, At Home Nursing Care is joining 5.8 million people in the Great ShakeOut Emergency Drill. We’ll involve all of our staff and caregivers.

In the meantime, here are tips from the Earthquake Country Alliance –including 7 steps to take, plus a special guide for those with disabilities in order to plan ahead.
